The study treats the advantage of using a mobile equipment for measuring the
thermal resistance in a borehole, to determine the thermal properties of the
entire borehole system. Suggestions for further development of the equipment
are given in the study. The equipment is technically very simple. It
basically consists of a pump, a heater and temperature sensors for measuring
inlet and outlet temperature of the borehole. The equipment is set up on a
small trailer to make it easily transported between boreholes. The response
test takes one week to execute, so the test is fully automatized. The
equipment has been tested at two cooling systems for telephone stations in
Stockholm, and the results from the measurement accurately estimate the
thermal properties of the borehole systems. The mobile equipment for a
thermal response test is a valuable tool for improving the economical
potental of underground thermal energy systems.
